Magazines Part 2

For the early magazines, they did not have pictures on them but they sometimes had art work printed on them. There were no colors and there was just basic text. They were just regular pieces of paper with information on them, like newspapers.
The poster covers had pictures on the covers. But they only focused on the pictures, there was very little text if not none. It had colors and the titles were not just basic text. They were enlarged and given different shapes and colors.
The picture married to type all had large titles and models on the cover, to bring in people. And they had lines on which the text would lie on.
In the Forrest of Words magazines all had a lot of text. Sometimes the text was so big that it was bigger than the title itself. The pictures were always the background of the photo. What was important was the words it had on the cover, not the photos.

My Favorite Cover

                                                                       "Favorite"

Harper's Bazaar, March 2012: "Gwyneth Revealed"

I think this is my favorite cover because it is so simple. There is not so much of a photo to where you have to look all over the page to see the whole picture. There is one subject and it is smack dab in the middle of the page. Also I like the black and white contrast of her dress and the background of the photo. Also I just like the fact that there is a pretty girl in the photo. Everyone likes pretty girls, so I think that was a good idea to put one on the cover. Also I like the girl in the picture because she was an actress in Iron Man. I like iron man so I like this magazine. Those are the main reasons I like this magazine.

Magazine tips

1. One thing you should always keep in mind when creating a cover magazine is, if the image is interesting enough for the viewers to want to buy them.

2. Make it something that viewers find irresistible, in most cases an attractive woman on the cover does it.

3. Make all the colors on the cover pop so that someone who walks by it can see the colors and be brought in by the dazzling magazine.

4. Make the sentences on the cover short but interesting, so that you can see more of the picture but also so that the words can arouse a viewers curiosity.

5. make the cover something that will sell for sure. Keep it interesting and stimulating so that the viewers do not get bored and do not buy the magazine.

Fashion Photography.

1. She was given a lot of makeup, and her face was photo shopped to look more appealing. Things like extending her neck and making her look skinnier. Her hair was also made to look better.
2. Her skin complexion was made to look lighter, her eyes were made bigger and her face slimmer. Her legs were extended so that her body looks more proportional. Her stomach was made to look slimmer also.
3. He thighs and glutes were made to look smaller and slimmer so that her lower body looked more appealing. Her arms were decreased in size and made skinnier. Her hair was edited so that it was more luscious and nice. Her stomach and breast were also decreased in size.
4. I think it is as long as the person is okay with it. If they take a picture of someone, and that person is not as attractive and the people say that he/she is ugly and that they will change her face and everything about her, then i do not think it is acceptable.
5. Yes the subject was unaware of the changes and was insulted because they didn't think he/she was attractive enough. That is one example of it being ethically wrong.
6. Minor changes are ok, like adjusting the lights in the picture or just taking small details out of the picture like skin problems. major changes like completely reconstructing someones face and body is not.
7. in real photography you are not allowed to change the picture in anyway or you are discredited. In fashion photography they can do as they please and completely reconstruct an image to make it better.
8. Fashion photography can influence the way people think of themselves and want to change themselves. Photojournalism effect the peoples emotion, because the image did not have to be altered because it is already powerful.
9. I think you are showing us these videos as an example of how powerful and useful photoshop is. That we can create almost anything out of any picture.
10. Because guys are not as appealing in society as women are. Men wish their women looked like those models, and the women wish they looked like those models also.

Self Portraits Part 1

1. I think a good tip is to always have your subject look at something that is not the camera, because it gives the picture more emotions.

Another good tip is to not be shy when you are taking pictures of people. Get to know them a little bit and get comfortable around them, i think this is important because if you are too shy to take pictures of  people then you shouldn't take pictures at all.

Another good one is introducing a prop, because it gives the picture more meaning and it makes it more interesting.

2.                                                                  Environmental

Low ISO                                                                           High ISO

1. The advantage of using a higher ISO at night is that you capture more light in a dark photo.
2. He recommends that you always use a lower ISO, especially when it is light outside.
3.When you do not want to use flash you increase your ISO.

Mural Project Preview

1. I think a good theme around the school would be posting pictures of bulldawgs and cartoons of bulldogs.
2. I think we should only use phones so that other people that do not have high quality cameras may also use phones.
3. I think a place to post these pictures would be on the side of H-hall so that most people around the school can see it and admire it. also that s the only area around the school with open spaces that could fit a mural.

Great Black and White Photographers part 3

1. What first caught my eye with the black and white pictures was that they were all pictures of nature, and beautiful pictures of waterfalls.
2. I see the sun reflecting off of the calm surface of the lake, and the mountains on the other side. I can see the rainbow created by the mist of the waterfall and the suns rays coming into contact.
I can smell the relaxing scent of flowers and water. I can smell that smell after a rain storm.
I can feel the sun on my neck as I pose for the picture. I can feel the mist coming off the waterfall.
I can hear the deafening sound of the waterfall as it crashes into the river. I can hear the relaxing sound of birds singing and crickets chirping as the calm waves of the water hit into sandy shores surrounding the lake.
3. I think i would make posters and hang them up around the school, for the whole school to see and admire.

Christ Of the Abyss

                                                                          Steve Frink

I think it would be fun to take pictures there because it is underwater, and you would get to swim around and take photos. Also it is in Italy so that would be fun to go down there and swim around taking photos.

Five Places of Interest

1. Statue of Jesus under water
2. Ice Caves in Iceland
3. Angkor Wat, Cambodia
4. Sunken Yacht, Antarctica
5. SS Ayerfield, homebush bay, Australia

The one I will be working on is #1

Russian Village, Niigata, Japan

I would like to go to this park and take photos there because it is more colorful and not as creepy as other parks. I like the fact that they tried to make a Russian type village in Japan. I do not know why exactly but this park just seemed intriguing to me. I like that it has a church and a museum, you could get many cool pictures in those places.

Quote

"I'm not interested in creating work that is simply documentary or filled with action and drama, which has been the norm in the photography of animals in the wild. What I am interested in is showing the animals simply in the state of Being. In the state of Being before they are no longer are. Before, in the wild at least, they cease to exist. This world is under terrible threat, all of it caused by us. To me, every creature, human or nonhuman, has an equal right to live, and this feeling, this belief that every animal and I are equal, affects me every time I frame an animal in my camera. The photos are my elegy to these beautiful creatures, to this wrenchingly beautiful world that is steadily, tragically vanishing before our eyes."

Why does Nick Brandt Take these photos?

He takes these photos because in 1995 he went on a trip through Tanzania and instantly fell in love with the landscape and the wildlife. Now he takes thee photos to help preserve the land and the animals. He uses them to stop deforestation and the destruction of land so that the animals will not become rare or even extinct.
He hopes these photos will help the cause, so that animals will not lose their homes that they have had for millions of years.

Nick Brandt Camera and Lense

He uses a Pentax 67II with two fixed lenses. It is important because to get a good picture you need a good camera and a good lens. Cameras and lenses are everything in photography. Different cameras can have different effects on photos and the same with lenses.

My favorite picture

I cannot even begin to describe why I love this photo. It is just so beautiful, powerful, and clear. It is unbelievable how close he got to this animal, and how little attention it payed to him. It was there for one reason and that was to get a drink, not to be a model or attack him.
This picture follows the rule of simplicity and balance. It follows these rules because if you cut the picture in half it would be perfectly symmetrical, so it is balance. It follows simplicity because there is only one clear subject in the photo and nothing else draws attention away for that subject.

Reaction to Africa Pictures

I absolutely loved the photos that he posted. I am a huge fan of animals and wildlife, so most pictures with animals look good to me. But these pictures just blew my mind, they were so clear and so powerful. I wanted to say those had to be photoshopped but they are the real thing. I loved them.

Peer Reflection

1. I think they did the best job with taking a picture of framing. She took a picture reflecting off a mirror and got a clear photo of the subject.
2. I do not believe they did the rule of thirds very well, because in the photo there is a tress leaning over a group of people and it obstructs the view.
3. Overall i think they did a pretty good job on their photos, she didn't take any photos where the subject looked at the camera or anything. Also she did a good job of demonstrating mergers.
4. I think she could improve on taking pictures with less mergers in the photos.

Academic Shoot Reflection

1. I found i was difficult to ask teachers and and gain entry into some classrooms because some had test being taken so they wouldn't let me in.
2. I mainly found myself thinking about the angle and the lighting while taking the photos.
3. I would not really change anything I did, for the most part I think I did everything correctly.
4. I would do most if not all of the same things I have already done.
5. I think simplicity is the easiest photo to get because, you only need a picture with one obvious subject and nothing else.
6. Framing is pretty hard to capture, because there is not always something framing the pictures for you.
7. I am the least sure of framing and balance, I could go back to the post where it told us all of the rules and gave us examples.

Academic Photo Shoot #5

1.) I did a good job in this photo following the rule of thirds.
2.) The subject in this photo is pretty easy to see, there are the three students, two in the foreground and one in the background.
3.) Yes the subjects are pretty obvious in this photo.
4.) I think I did a pretty good job in this photo, so I don't need to change anything.

Academic Photo Shoot pic#4

1.)I think I followed the rule quite well for balance because everything in the photo is even and symmetrical.
2.) The subject s the student studying in the cubicle inside the library.
3.) Yes the subject is very easy to see and guess.
4.) I think I did a really good job on this photo and I don't need to change anything with it.

Academic Photo Shoot pic#3

1.) I think I followed the rule of simplicity quite well because there is only one subject in the photo.
2.) The subject is the student sitting down and studying his journal.
3.) Yes it is very clear what the subject of the photo is.
4.) I think this is a very good picture for simplicity because there is only one subject.

Academic Photo Shoot pic#2

1.) I think I followed the lines rule pretty well because there are many lines going towards the subject and not creating a merger.
2.) The subject of this picture is the students sitting on the bench studying.
3.) Yes it is very clear what the subject of the photo is.
4.) I think I did a good job on this rule and don't need to fix anything.

AcademicShoot pic#1

1.) I think I followed the rule pretty well, I do believe the picture could have been better but it is good.
2.) The subject is the students inside the classroom.
3.) Yes the subject is very clear and obvious, I think many people could tell what the subject is.
4.) I think I could have tried to frame the photo better and not just use the door.

Filling the Frame

This picture fills the frame with all kinds of interesting things. There are students playing with dry ice and the smoke created by the dry ice.

Action and emotion

This picture portrays action and emotion because the students are messing with the teacher and all three people are showing a lot of emotions by smiling and joking around.

The Story

I think this picture shows a story, because in the picture you can see how much fun they are having learning. They seem to be enjoying the class and the experiment they are conducting. You can tell they like the class that they are in and they most likely like the teacher also.

Unusual photo part2, 2nd photo

1. I chose this photo because I like how it is black and white and also that light coming from above in this photo.
2. Sports Action
3. 2nd place
4. He made the picture black and white.
5. I think the judges really thought it was cool because they obviously chose this photo for 2nd place
6. He had to be standing on the actual track to get this photo.

Unusual Photo part 2, 1st photo

1. I picked this photo because I really like it, I love the color contrast and I like how you can see the damage done by the grasshoppers and also the grasshoppers themselves.
2. Photo Journalist of the Year.
3. 1st place baby!
4. What drew me to this photo was the colors.
5. I think it weighed on their minds a lot because seeing that man walk through his destroyed makes you feel really bad for him.
6. He had to actually go into the crops to get that photo.

Unusual and interesting photos part 1

Christian Rhum

1. I really like is work, its really cool and kind of abstract. I think its cool how he did that and I would also like to know how to do that.

2. I think he took three photos of the same subject, then made them overlap each other with different angles.

3. I think a excellent building for these kinds of pictures would be the Frost Bank Tower, Austin Texas.
You would have easy access to that building because it is just downtown in this very city.

Photo manipulation.

Photo Manipulation

A.)The point of the story is that you should not cheat to get a better a photo or story, because you are basically lying to the public and saying that this is how it happened although that is not how it actually happened. The story gave examples of what has happened to people in the past because they want to get the point across that cheating is not ok. You wont just lose your job and have to get into another newspaper, you will lose your whole career just because you wanted your photo to look better than before.

B.) I have to different views on this subject. I mainly think it is unethical and unacceptable to change your original photo so you can make yourself look better. But if you change a absolutely minor detail of a photo then i think it is acceptable. Something that will not change the whole photo.

Merger

I chose this picture to show a merger because the trees are blocking the main focus of the picture. Mergers are when there is something in the photo that takes attention away from the main focus. Like tress blocking your view or other obstacles obstructing the photo.

Framing

This photo demonstrates framing because the buildings all surround the smoke plume, thus framing the center of the picture.
